Es sind stagnierende und teilweise auch rückläufige Tendenzen in einigen deutschen Tourismusgebieten zu verzeichnen. Dies ist neben der Sättigung des Marktes auf weitgehend austauschbare und undifferenzierte Reiseangebote zurückzuführen. Vor dem Hintergrund gestiegener Anspruchniveaus deutscher Touristen und zunehmend heterogener Urlaubswünsche stellt die differenzierte und zielgruppenspezifische Ausrichtung
des touristischen Marketings eine Möglichkeit der wettbewerbsorientiertenProfilierung touristischer Anbieter dar.
Zudem wird mit Blick auf die demographische Entwicklung in Deutschland nicht nur eine schrumpfende sondern auch eine alternde Bevölkerung erkennbar. Zukünftiges Wachstum ist nur noch in der Bevölkerung über 50 Jahre zu erwarten. Für touristische Leistungsanbieter sowie Destinationen bietet sich hier ein wichtiger Wachstumsmarkt.
In diesem Zusammenhang erscheint in jüngster Zeit mehrfach der Marketingbegriff "Best Ager", der ein potenzielles Nachfragesegment innerhalb dieses Wachstumsmarktes zu umschreiben versucht. Eine nur geringe Zahl unterschiedlicher Definitionsansätzen lässt jedoch erkennen, dass hier noch eine wenig erschlossene Zielgruppe existiert.
Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, das Nachfragesegment "Best Ager" in Deutschland mit Hilfe der Methoden der Marketinglehre vom Gesamtmarkt der über 50-Jährigen abzugrenzen und unter soziodemographischen, psychographischen und verhaltensorientierten Aspekten zu untersuchen. 1. Einleitung

Die vorliegende Hausarbeit setzt sich mit dem Habitus des französischen Soziologen Pierre Bourdieus auseinander und versucht verschiedenen Fragestellungen auf den Grund zu gehen. Als erstes möchte ich erklären, was der Begriff Habitus bedeutet, wie er funktioniert, was das Besondere an ihm ist und was er für die soziale Analyse bedeutet. Des Weiteren soll das Konzept des Habitus erläutert werden und wie ihn Individuen erwerben. Abschließend erläutere ich das Zusammenspiel zwischen Habitus und Feld, um zu verdeutlichen, wie soziale Praxis und sozialer Sinn zustande kommen bzw. zumindest theoretisch funktionieren können. Ich beziehe meine Ausführungen auf Auszüge aus dem Werk Bourdieus unter Zuhilfenahme einschlägiger Sekundärliteratur, um ein möglichst abrundenden Einblick in die sehr komplexe Struktur des Habitus zu liefern und um verständlich zu machen, was man aus der Funktionsweise des Habitus über die Lernprozesse erschließen kann, in denen ein Mensch im Laufe seines Lebens seinen Habitus ausbildet, modifiziert, verfestigt und verändert.

Based mainly on a systematic survey of old trees in Norfolk, partly carried out by the authors themselves, Ancient Trees in the Landscape is concerned above all with the landscape context of trees, with the questions of how and why particular kinds of old tree are found in particular places, what this has contributed to the character of the landscape and what it can tell us about the way that trees were managed and regarded in the past. What emerges is a fascinating picture of the survival and changing of species as the landscape evolves over time and of what trees meant to people in earlier periods.

Using Computation to Understand Literature

Everyone knows that computers are changing everything. You might not expect that they are changing the way that professors of English analyze literature. This is, however, happening, and is leading to unexpected insights. _Macroanalysis: Digital Methods and Literary History_ (University of Illinois Press) by Matthew L. Jockers is a sort of manifesto for the use of enormous databases to tell us about trends and meanings that could not be perceived before. Jockers says that the emerging field has come to be called "digital humanities" after being known as "humanities computing." Concordance work preceded the use of digital computers, but computers have brought powerful ways to seek answers. "The humanities computing/digital humanities revolution has now begun," writes Jockers, "and big data have been a major catalyst. The questions we may now ask were previously inconceivable, and to answer these questions requires a new methodology, a new way of thinking about our object of study."

It certainly must be new for the English professors who have previously done their work without computers. "Like it or not," writes Jockers, "today's literary-historical scholar can no longer risk being _just_ a close reader: the sheer quantity of available data makes the traditional practice of close reading untenable as an exhaustive or definitive method of evidence gathering. Something important will inevitably be missed." One of the surprising findings described here is that little words make the great difference. A writer might have to decide, perhaps repeatedly, whether to describe a sunset as "beautiful" or as "magnificent." Such choices take conscious reflection, but they tell less than does the use of little, automatic words like "the," "of," and "it." These words, outside of our conscious control, are, says Jockers, like the "tell" exhibited by a poker player. It would be excruciating work to tally up such tiny, seemingly insignificant differences, but that's the sort of work a computer can do with ease, giving insight into authorship that is available no other way. A computer cannot understand a novel the way we do, but that does not stop it from being able to spot styles. Distinctions of word use in different styles are helping literary scholars define what genres are out there, and the foundations for classifying novels into them. Computers know nothing of plot or protagonists, but they have proven capable of defining genres by word use and they can make charts called dendrograms that look like family trees the evolutionists use, showing how one style descended from another.

Jockers understands that there are limitations for this sort of evaluation of literature, and jokes about how "more controversial and objectionable would be an argument along the lines of `Moby Dick is God, and I have the numbers to prove it.'" I thought also of the great expression of the difference between understanding literature and enjoying it, in the description in _Catch-22_ of the character Clevinger: "He knew everything there was to know about literature, except how to enjoy it." Computers with their word counts, endlessly sorted and refined, might help our understanding; if this understanding helps our enjoyment, let them keep crunching.

In elegant and enjoyable prose, Jockers demonstrates how a variety of cutting-edge computational techniques can bring us new insights about style, genre, and literary history, in a manner that is both precise and comprehensive. Jockers invites us into his workshop, but treats the technical aspects of his approaches with light touch. The result is a delightful book that will be required reading for anyone who wants to understand and practice digital literary scholarship.

Motivating in the spirit of John Burrows

Jocker's Macroanalysis is a wonderful read. As someone who dabbles in text mining and encourages a new generation of young scholars to consider the application of computing to a deep analysis of their texts of interest, i found myself nodding in agreement more and more as i continued through the book. While on occasion i wished i understood more of the details in each of the applied analyses, i quickly appreciated that Jocker's intent was much more of an encouragement to understand the potential of analyses in the large rather than YABOM (Yet Another Book On Methods). Part II of his book is must reading for anyone who wants to see concrete examples of how computational analysis seeks to answer new questions of large bodies of text.

Perhaps most importantly from my perspective was how the book encouraged me to consider new avenues for text mining. Rarely do i get motivated when reading technical material. But motivated i was ... and am; i finished the last page with copious notes, tens of new experiments in mind, and a joy of working in this field not felt since first reading papers by John Burrows.

In this provocative new book, Thayer-Bacon (Univ. of Tennessee) aims to dislodge democratic theory from its reliance on the extreme individualism of John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau and in its place construct a transactional view of democracy that emphasizes epistemological and cultural pluralism and a relational view of selfhood. Drawing from a variety of feminist and postmodern perspectives, she makes a convincing case for a view of democracy that is always incomplete and unfinished, yet nevertheless provides the best orientation for educational (and other social) institutions. Thayer-Bacon accomplishes this by linking critical investigation of key theorists (Jacques Rancière, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, bell hooks, and others) to descriptive analysis of actual school projects, some of which are based on firsthand experience. Her treatment of Myles Horton and Maxine Greene are especially noteworthy. In her effort to canonize some theorists while demonizing others, however, she makes the occasional heavy-handed caricature. The historical record makes it very difficult to see Maria Montessori, for instance, as someone animated by a purely egalitarian spirit. Moreover, Thayer-Bacon's sharp, nearly ad hominem critique of Peter McLaren's work will likely raise eyebrows. Still, it is this contentiousness that will generate good discussion in graduate seminars. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Undergraduates, all levels, and above. (CHOICE)

One of the great mistakes of our time is thinking we know the fixed and final form of democracy for all people, epochs, and places. Another mistake is thinking we have all the democracy we require. In Seeing for Ourselves, Katerina Whitley again pulls the reader into the thoughts of a number of Biblical women. In this collection she focuses on women who met Jesus, whether before or after his resurrection. In repeating her success in Speaking for Ourselves, Whitely again begins with a broad academic knowledge of the history and anthropology of the middle east. She then transcends knowledge with an understanding of how it feels to meet the divine. Her empathy with the women's feelings gives this reader the feeling that she is also a women who has met her Lord.
The anxious young bride who was wed in Cana is not mentioned at all in the Bible, except in the understanding that a wedding implies a bride. Whitley fleshes her out and gives her an engaging personality. We delight with her in her relief at finding a kind and understanding husband waiting for her. And we thrill with her when she realizes the greatness of the improbable wedding gift Jesus has given her and makes a commitment to follow him. All women illuminated in this slim collection live for us, whether Whitley is telling of someone who's story is fairly detailed in scripture, like the women at the well, or relatively obscure like Pilate's wife.
Whitley succeeds admirably in transcribing these women's thoughts for us to share. The book can be read as a collection of superb short stories by people of any level of Biblical knowledge and interest as well as an illumination to the Bible as part of a study program. Individual stories are brief enough to use as an introductory meditation for a study group or committee meeting. They are full of information and insight and, with or without the included discussion questions, will spark thoughtful reflection among readers or listeners.

Compre este libro sin haber leído el famoso libro de inteligencia emocional del célebre autor Daniel Goleman, con mucha expectativa y emoción. Debo decir que mis expectativas fueron ampliamente satisfechas. El libro es muy interesante y revelador de principio a fin. Con muchos ejemplos práctica y escrito en un lenguaje sencillo y dinámico. Es como sí hubieran quitado un vendaje de mis ojos. La forma de ver el mundo profesional y las emociones cambia drásticamente a partir de su lectura. Muy recomendable para cualquier persona interesada en mejorar su eficacia personal.
