Good commentary for the lectionary preacher

I have several Bible commentaries on Matthew. I like reading what they have to say. Each one has a unique perspective, and something to add to conversation. Having said that, this particular commentary is unique in what it offers and how it communicates. As such, I highly recommend it to mainline preachers who have a discipline of preaching from the Revised Common Lectionary.

On my shelf, I have some lectionary preaching guides as well as commentaries and studies that deal directly with the text. This commentary blends the best of both worlds. While dealing with and confronting each text directly, it does especially well at naming, exploring and speaking to its use in the RCL. It identifies where the passage is located in the Christian year, and how the themes of that passage directly relate to its placement in the lectionary. Unlike other preaching helps, Allen's scholarship and exegesis of the text goes much deeper than a standard "preaching guide". I believe that if a teacher of a Sunday School class were wanting to teach an in-depth Bible study in concert with the RCL text selections.

Allen also uses charts liberally, both in the main part of the text, as well as some of the helps that the author developed for understanding gospel's place in the Christian year and the preaching task.

Another thing I liked about the way Allen arranged the book is that he arranged his understanding of the book not so much around theological themes, or themes of content, but rather by setting. Being as I am deeply interested in a theology of place, this way of organizing the gospel intrigues me, and it will be something I study further.

Until then, I will add this to one of the resources I return to frequently for sermon and study preparation.

Neben dem Flexibilitätsaspekt zeichnet sich eine Ineffizienz dieser Methode ab, da in der Praxis ca. 41% der Projektressourcen (Zeit und Kapital) für diese Phase der Analyse und Dokumentation in Anspruch genommen wird.

Ein Kernprinzip des Geschäftsprozessmanagements besteht in der kontinuierlichen Anpassung des Unternehmens und der betrieblichen Abläufe an seine Umgebung. Im klassischen Geschäftsprozessmanagement wird diese Umge-bung stark auf den Markt fokussiert, in welchem das Unternehmen agiert, da dieser als Hauptträger wachsender Anforderungen an Zeit, Qualität, Kosten und Flexibilität identifiziert werden kann. Dieser Wandel der Anforderungen kann nur erfüllt werden, wenn er als permanente Herausforderung und kontinuierlicher Prozess betrachtet wird, welcher nicht nur den Markt, sondern das gesamte Unternehmen umfasst.

Das BPM 2.0 (Social BPM) versucht diese Ansatzpunkte zu einer neuen Herangehensweise zu vereinen und somit die Flexibilität der betrieblichen Abläufe zu erhöhen, die Mitarbeitermotivation zu steigern, den BPM-Lebenszyklus zu verkürzen und Innovationen voran zu treiben.

About the Author
Barbara Goldschmidt is a writer, researcher, and licensed massage therapist. She has taught at helathcare facilities, at community centers, and in the Massage Therapy Program at Swedish Institute, College of Health Sciences in New York City. She has been active in the field of integrative healthcare for over 30 years. Niamh van Meines is a nurse practitioner, currently self employed as a nurse consultant. She is a skilled clinical leader and educator in oncology, homecare, hospice and palliative care. She is also a licensed massage therapist and teaches massage therapy students about career development in end of life care.

Part of the Historical Dictionaries of U.S. Historical Eras series, this volume covers the period from 1951 to 1961. The book’s format follows those of its series predecessors, beginning with a chronology of events from January 1, 1951, when the Chinese Communists broke through UN forces in Seoul, Korea, to the January 20, 1961, inauguration of John F. Kennedy. A list of acronyms and abbreviations is followed by an introduction that discusses the major themes of the era, including the Red scare and the cold war. The major portion of this volume is an A–Z dictionary of important subjects, individuals, and events in American economic, political, social, and cultural history during the period. Appendixes list the members of the Eisenhower administration and the constitutional amendments passed during his presidency, and an extensive topical bibliography completes the volume. Unfortunately Too Long

How many thriller/mysteries can last 502 pages and still be good? Not many, if any at all and, unfortunately, THE RENTED MULE proves the point. I'm a huge fan of THE DUMMY LINE, but Mr. Cole sorely needed an editor with cropping scissors for this book. Pages 150 to 300 were pretty much unnecessary. Redundancy was rampant.

I said it was unfortunately too long, because the story is pretty good one. The ending is also very good. No one does chase scenes as well as Mr. Cole. The main character is very very similar to Jake Cosby in the THE DUMMY LINE and its sequel, MOON UNDERFOOT, but that's ok, the formula works.

In this book, Cooper seems to have the idyllic life, with the exception of his working like a, well, rented mule. His druggie gambling partner wants to sell the successful business he has built and his wife has already spent the proceeds of the sale. He is lusting after the perfect woman, but other that, everything looks fine. Then everyone wants his piece of the company and all heck breaks loose. He is set up as the fall guy and then has to extricate himself. There is not a lot of cerebral effort in his actions, but there is that great chase scene.

This book is okay, especially if you don't mind skimming an appreciable amount of it. I think I'd rather go back and reread THE DUMMY LINE though.

Author Cole is quite the raconteur

I enjoyed this third offering by author Bobby Cole, after The Dummy Line and Moon Underfoot. He has quite the talent of bringing his characters alive on the page, letting us readers peek into the nooks and crannies of their lives.

Cooper Dixon, the protagonist of "The Rented Mule," is a similar character to Jake Crosby from his first two books. An everyday good old boy who loves fishing and hunting, he definitely isn't perfect. He makes mistakes going through a mid-life crisis and by making those mistakes, hurts others.

The bad guys in the tale are quite the motley group. I loved reading about them - bad guys but not totally bad.

The story takes place in and near Montgomery, Alabama and it is apparent that author Cole is writing about a place that he is familiar with and that he loves.

"The Dummy Line" is still probably my favorite out of the three books but this latest tale is definitely worth reading. It is a little wordy but I enjoyed reading about all the characters. It is a bit of a mystery/thriller also and I liked those aspects of it. I am also glad there was epilogue to the story, tying up all the loose ends rather than leaving us readers hanging off a cliff.

Full of awkward sentences and bad cliches

I honestly couldn't even get into the story. I found myself distracted by the cliches that seemed to be in every sentence, every word that the characters thought or spoke. The socialite wife who is living beyond her husband's means, the drug-addicted, embezzling business partner with a gambling problem and a bookie...

And I realize that the author was trying to give an impression of his characters having a regional accent or dialect, but I thought it was distracting. Phrases like, "darlin', I'm takin' my boy fishin,'" with all the apostrophes, only go so far before they just become tiresome, especially when all the characters talk that way. I realized I was rolling my eyes at some of the conversations between bad guys: "yo, Homey, whattya want, icin' somebody ain't part of the deal," and that's when I gave up. It's rare that I don't finish a book, but I just couldn't get past my issues with the writing.

Just a note: I did not quote the above phrases directly from the book - call it paraphrasing.

I'm disappointed.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,0, Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg im Breisgau (Institut für deutsche Sprache und Literatur), Veranstaltung: Heinrich von Kleist. Die Erzählungen: Willkür, Gewalt und Recht , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit enthält eine vollständige Analyse des Kleistschen Aufsatzes Über das Marionettentheater und seine Bedeutung für das Gesamtwerk Kleists. Zu Beginn erfolgt eine kurze Übersicht über die Entstehung und den Inhalt des Werkes. Diese Übersicht wird mit einer Analyse einiger formalen Aspekte ergänzt. Das Kernstück dieser Arbeit ist jedoch die Beschäftigung mit der philosophischen Essenz des Aufsatzes. In ihr zeigt sich das Weltbild des Menschen Heinrich von Kleist in sehr prägnanter Form. Um sich diesem anzunähern, wird zunächst der kulturgeschichtliche Kontext der Zeit Kleists betrachtet. Es folgt eine Analyse des Marionettensymbols und eine Auseinandersetzung mit der Problematik um den Verlust der Anmut (=Grazie). Dabei sollen auch die Vorstellungen der Weimarer Klassik vorgestellt werden. Schließlich kommt es zu einer Beschäftigung mit der Frage, wie der Mensch die verlorene Grazie wieder erlangen kann. Insbesondere das triadische Entwicklungsmodell, wie es unter anderem der Philosoph J.J. Rousseau versteht, wird zur Diskussion gestellt.Die nun erstellte Gesamtinterpretation ermöglicht es, Bezüge zum Gesamtwerk des Autors herzustellen. Dabei sollen exemplarisch zwei Erzählungen (Das Erdbeben in Chili, Der Zweikampf) sowie das Drama Penthesilea erwähnt werden, in denen geprüft werden kann, inwiefern sich die grundlegenden Motive des Marionettentheaters in seinem literarischen Schaffen wiederspiegeln. Bevor diese Arbeit durch eine Zusammenfassung abgeschlossen wird, erfolgt ein kurzer Ausblick über die Bedeutung des Aufsatzes für die Gegenwart.

Showcase of Contemporary Western Design

Cowboy Style is filled with warm comforting styles to reflect a casual sophistication. Intricately designed armoires and Tiffany lamps are as welcome as the more organic designs made from ponderosa pine.

Wood furniture shimmers in the glow of fireplaces and creative chandeliers in rooms layered in comfort. Intricately designed carpets and designer bookcases make the spaces inviting.

A magical artist's studio built in Wyoming showcases a cut-metal lamp by a California craftsman, Tony Alvis. His fireplace screens are of especially high interest in this book because they are scenes of cowboys overlooking deserts and the interplay of the light behind the silhouettes makes for a fascinating magical experience.

Beautiful Book!

I needed pictures to help me figure out how to design a Country Western style art gallery. This book had beautiful pictures, gives an overview of the history of the western culture, and provides names of companies and/or creators of furniture pieces. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the Rustic/Country Western style home; this book was absolutely wonderful!

I enjoyed the book, but I was a bit disappointed, since there wasn't enough technical decorating information on color schemes, regional variations in styles, etc.
Great pictures, though.
