HipHop wird wegen seiner sexistischen Inhalte und frauenfeindlichen Texte oft in der Öffentlichkeit diskutiert. Rapvideos zeigen Frauen häufig nur als schmückendes Beiwerk der männlichen Rapper. Sie sollen deren Männlichkeit festigen und werden mit Statussymbolen wie Luxus-Autos, Hunden, Designer-Kleidung, etc gleichgesetzt. Frauen sind Bitches Huren , die es auf das Geld der Männer abgesehen haben und als Person wertlos sind ( ) Der Mann positioniert sich im Zentrum, um ihn herum kann sich die Frau an ihn angelehnt definieren. 5 Dabei wird übersehen, dass es eine Vielzahl von HipHoperinnen gibt, die in ihren Texten mit männlichen Bildern von Weiblichkeit spielen und durch ihr Talent den HipHop beeinflusst haben. About the Author
Martha Stark, M.D., a graduate of the Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute, is a psychiatrist/psychoanalyst in private practice in Newton Centre, Massachusetts. Dr. Stark is on the faculty of both the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute and the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis. She is also a Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School, has a teaching appointment at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, and is on the faculty of the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Look no further-this book is the clinician's "pearl of great price"!

As others have aptly noted, Dr. Stark's writing is exemplary for its clarity. Her prose style is lucid and user-friendly. Her own brilliance notwithstanding, her explanations are couched in direct, plain language. Her authorial tone is unfailingly unpretentious and respectful- to the reader, and also to the patient- about whom and for whose benefit she has written.
The book consists of three logically delineated parts. In Part One, Dr. Stark explains that resistance, in its many forms, always boils down to a failure to grieve. With exquisite parsimony, she equates the failure to grieve with avoidance of reality. Succinctly, she defines mental health as not needing the facts- about others, or oneself, or the world- to be other than they are. Part Two is devoted to explaining, first, how to listen well in relation to resistance, and second, how specifically to respond to the patient's particular need at any given moment in the therapeutic dialogue. Her masterful and enlightening discussion of the clinical transferences in Part Three culminates in her contention that the patient's "attainment of mature hope" is the "raison d'etre" of the psychotherapeutic endeavor.
Most compelling and invaluable of all, however, is her thorough, logically impeccable, and eminently practical enumeration of the kinds of statements needed to work expertly with a patient's resistance. The clinician who "reads, marks, learns and inwardly digests" Dr. Stark's uniquely designed "toolkit" of carefully calibrated therapeutic statements will have a credible claim to confidence and competence.
A better guide to working with resistance is hard to imagine. Any clinician who would learn, from a true master, what to say, and when, and why, and how, need look no further. Dr. Stark's "Primer" is the clinician's "pearl of great price."

A clear, consise explanation of the theraputic relationship

Dr. Stark weaves together the viewpoints of many different schools of theraputic thought while bringing her own facinating insights to bear in this wonderful book. Other authors in this field could take a lesson from the clarity of her prose. The best book I have ever read on the subject. Anyone seeking to better understand the theraputic relationship should read this book.

This book is not well known and was recommended to me by my supervisor.
This is an excellent book for the beginning psychoanalytic candidates, with clear explanations of how to identify and work with all the different resistances you will encounter when working with a patient. It also has clear explanations on how to formulate questions depending on the particular clinical situation. It is a real find!

Lo único que hace que sus días sean tolerables son sus sueños, los cuales la llevan a lugares muy apacibles. Lo malo es que últimamente éstos no han sido cordiales. Si bien en ellos se ha topado con Erick, un apuesto joven que se siente irremediablemente atraído por Vanessa, también ha estado en un par de ocasiones en peligro de muerte.

A pesar de esos riesgos, la chica se ha obsesionado de tal modo con Erick, que ya no pone atención a nada de lo que ocurre en su vida cotidiana, aunque esto le cueste la posibilidad de hacerse novia del alumno más guapo (y real) de toda la escuela.
Tras varias semanas de incertidumbre, el mundo de Vanessa se desmorona cuando descubre que nunca ha soñado, sólo se ha transportado a una realidad alterna, la cual se encuentra amenazada por un ser malévolo que se está apoderando de las almas de sus habitantes. Pero el panorama no es tan desolador como aparenta. Antiguas profecías señalan a Vanessa como la elegida para salvar (o llevar a su destrucción) a los habitantes de esa realidad, entre ellos el apuesto Erick, quien ha jurado proteger a la joven aun a costa de su propia vida (y de paso ganarse su corazón).

Prometedor inicio de Escritora Mexicana

Supe de la existencia de este libro por un programa de Radio en el cual entrevistaron a la autora, después lo vi físicamente en un atienda y finalmente compre la versión digital, el libro es bueno a secas, nada memorable ni logra envolverte en una vorágine de lectura, pero cumple cabalmente con su cometido de entretener y hacerte soñar con mundos mágicos y oníricos.

La idea de la autora es buena aunque no del todo original, por ratos recuerda el guion de Matrix o de Alice in Wonderland y otras tantas parece mas una chick flick movie o una comedia ligera con sus diálogos muy digeribles y a rato simplones, la idea de los portales que maneja es confusa y no esta tan bien desarrollada como en el libro de los portales de Laura Gallegos García y siento que los capítulos están muy cargados y demasiado largos, en mi humilde opinión recortarlos un 25% seria lo ideal, le daría mas ritmo y frescura a la lectura, en mi caso particular suelo leer por capítulos y en este libro los sentí largos y tediosos.

Si bien supongo que el libro esta enfocado a un publico mayoritariamente femenino de chicas adolescentes a jóvenes, es disfrutable por publico de todas las edades y géneros, en resumen un buen libro recomendable para leer un fin de semana.

About the Author
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Allison and Matt Robicelli co-own the acclaimed wholesale bakery Robicelli’s. Matt was a FDNY paramedic before sustaining injury in 9/11. He then graduated from the French Culinary Institute with honors and has served as executive pastry chef at numerous top restaurants, including Lutèce. A former caterer, line cook and pastry chef, Allison is also a humorist whose writing has appeared on Nona Brookyn, Eater, Brokelyn, and Medium, as well as on the official Robicellis.com blog, and is the creator of Nutellasagna. They both still reside in the neighborhood where they grew up— Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

Best Cupcakes in the entire World.

Yes, this is a good read, so you can curl up in a chair and read cookbooks from cover to cover. In the process, you will learn about the weirdest thing I ever put in my mouth (the Buffalo Chicken Cupcake), the cupcakes my friends have called "orgasms on a plate" (the Iona), the cupcake that features ghost chilies, and the cupcake that my husband proposed to me on (the Brooklyn Blackout.) I loved the Robicelli's cupcakes from the first time I tried them, and I am super excited about sharing their cupcakes with my friends outside of the NYC area.

In Full Disclosure: I also used to work for the Robicellis. That said, the same techniques that I learned in the professional kitchen have been lacking in most home based cookbooks, leading to many disappointments of baking. Why, when I knew the perfect cupcake existed (in the form of the Robicelli's Banana Nutella), did my home creations taste so bad?

Two reasons. 1) French Buttercream. Buy a stand mixer, buy a pot that wont dribble on you while pouring hot sugar, and make some french buttercream. Eat it with a spoon, slather it on cupcakes (or lovers), and amaze your friends with awesomesauce. (They have an american style frosting recipe in the book that is amazing for that style of frosting, but you would be completely missing out if you did not have french buttercream in your life.) Also: the frosting recipes are explained through cursing cartoon figures.

2) Melted Butter. The "creaming" method of baking really sucks, unless you do it perfectly. The melted butter/liquid oil method of cupcakes not only makes better, fluffier, and moister cupcakes, but these last longer (and you can start a stockpile of "emergency cake.")

Not only do you get the best recipes I have seen for cupcakes, you get the story of the minds behind the madness. You can make almost any cupcake flavor you want (by mixing the base, buttercream, fillings and toppings, you can make literally Millions of cupcake combinations), all while being entertained by Allison and Matt's antics, love story, crazy food ideas, and the best miniature plated desserts in portable form. These are the cupcakes I feed people when they say they don't like cupcakes, and most of them change their minds.

Lastly, every recipe has standalone parts. Don't want to eat cupcakes? You will learn how to make Buffalo sauce, hazelnut banana praline, Jameson ganache (which is currently in my fridge ready to be poured over ice cream), Port Wine Reductions, candied nuts, jams, and more. This book is about more than cupcakes, it is about how to create awesome desserts, while giving you the tools needed to make your own creations.

Your cookbook was not at all what I expected. It was excellent, informative and funny. I have it on my coffee table and find myself picking it up every time I sit down.. now to get busy and start baking. Thank you so much

I wanted to like it!

James Rawles is the godfather of modern survival/collapse fiction so I was super excited for the release of his 4th book in the series but unfortunately about 50 pages in that turned to disappointment. As a daily follower of his blog I saw before the book came out that it would be focusing on Northern Australia (among other areas)which I have spent time in so right there major cool points.

I have to say though this book reads more like a collection of unfinished short stories. He'll dive into great detail briefly and then jump ahead a year and then to another set of characters and then back a year and then to another character and then ahead 3 years and then be very vague almost like he's boring himself telling that part. There are a few good action scenes and some of his interwoven "how to" advice (for example several pages are dedicated to a list of books the characters downloaded that you should actually have in real life) which is nice but overall I just couldn't get into it.

He tends to be critical of reviewers who don't sing his praises but I hope he takes our critiques to heart. Focus your attention on a cohesive story line and remain consistent in your level of detail if you want to make another 5-star book like "Patriots".

Couldn't Get Past the 1st Chapter

My husband and I have read aloud to each other Mr. Rawles' previous novels and have enjoyed them for the most part. Sometimes we groaned at the profuse detail but know that some folks are into that. In this novel, we just couldn't handle the on and on descriptions that seemed to sideline the story. It was painful--we so wanted to read and enjoy this book. Mr. Rawles is a good writer and his website survivalblog.com contains a wealth of information that can be lifesaving. I hope he writes another novel and concentrates on a good, cohesive storyline. Leave the endless detail the blog. Thanks for a good try but it just didn't work for us.

Brilliant book

As a therapist, I find that many clients admit to finding a sense of calmness and healing in nature, or say that they are `not conventionally religious' but `believe in something greater than themselves'. Despite this, orthodox training for therapists fights shy of incorporating people's need for and belief in what can loosely be called spirituality into healing. This wise and wonderful book takes the bull by the horns and shows how ancient shamanic beliefs, teachings and practice can be of immense practicality and benefit to clients presenting with a huge range of problems, from anxiety to deep trauma. It is highly readable, presenting the argument for incorporating spirituality into therapeutic practice with, to me, unanswerable logic. It offers clear advice and practical examples, but it is also deeply moving in its accounts of the experiences of different clients. My practice will be enriched by using the exercises suggested. It is surely destined to become a `companion book' for many a therapist - the sort of book doesn't sit on a shelf gathering dust, but is well used and loved.

An excellent book. It draws together and integrates shamanism and contemporary therapy, whilst putting it all into the wider context of human development. It is one of the best books I have read about the subject. I agree with John Perkins who called it an "enlightened contribution". If you ever buy a book on the subject matter, this is the one to buy!

Her range of knowledge and experience is impressive. Her writing is clear and lively. Her message is just what a better future requires. Indeed, she refers to her sixtysomething brother Chevvy as a gender migrant after he tells her of his decision to leave his gender designation behind and travel through personally uncharted territory to become a woman. The decision meant he had to forsake not just his male organs via surgery but also all the familiar trappings and language of masculinity, to say nothing of his wife of two decades. And just as the family of any migrant must adapt to the idea of him in a new place, with a new aspect and language, Haskell had to either accept or reject Chevvy’s sexual relocation, as it were. For the liberal-minded feminist, the adjustment wasn’t as easy as one might expect. Because if Chevvy’s course was uncharted, hers felt like leaping into a black hole. Selective Empathy

While I commend the author for writing this memoir, I came across a paragraph that disturbed me and I felt the need to say my piece. Her views of Brandon Teena, a female to male transsexual who was brutally raped and murdered by two men in rural Nebraska, are nothing short of disgraceful. After watching Boys Don't Cry, a film based on Brandon's life, she claims she "hated the duplicity" of his lifestyle and that he "invited the violence". How? She explains her view that the perpetrators manhood was taunted and Brandon pulled the wool over their eyes. How was their manhood taunted exactly? Brandon was their buddy who never acted with malicious intent towards them. And Brandon pulled the wool over their eyes, how? By not broadcasting his transition in a conservative town twenty years ago where gays and transgendered individuals were not only ostracized, but murdered, as he was? How can Haskell accept her sister Ellen with an open heart and mind and completely demean another individual from the same community, who chose to live in accordance with his gender identity? It is an ugly paradox, and a prime example of selective empathy.
What is most disturbing to me is that Haskell seems to be justifying the murderer's atrocious acts towards a human being. She describes them as being "uptight". Well, that takes the cake when it comes to understatements. Not only this, but Haskell disregards the use of male pronouns in reference to Brandon, ultimately discounting who he felt he was. Profound ignorance, insensitivity, and stupidity from someone I expected much more from. I put the book down after reading this terrible passage.

Wonderful for anyone to read, but especially me!

Molly Haskell is amazing, and covers every aspect of the transgender, along with a central theme of deep caring for her brother/sister and possible fear of losing him. Amazingly, I, too, have a my brother/my sister, who is also 6 feet tall w/ blue eyes, went to St. Christopher's (for a while; he didn't quite fit in), left two wives to be a woman; I mean really!!!, has one son, always fixes my computer, and several other likenesses to Ellen; we are also from Richmond, VA and both live here. I wish everyone would read the Book, I guess mainly to know that transgendering is a MUST-DO, and the longer the person goes without making the change surgically and all, the more frustrated they become. Teresa (nee Thomas) knew when he was 4 years old that he wanted to be a girl. I don't believe he ever thought he could be back in 1947, but had always grappled with it. She is deliriously happy now. I wish Ellen the best with her continued popularity (we have some mutual friends) and send my condolences to Molly (with So much personality!) upon the sad loss of her beloved husband; and commend her and Ellen for such a splendid and informative
Book and for the courage of tackling every step of such a sensitive, controversial and long-hushed human condition.... BRAVO!

Unusual perspective on an unusual transition

Most accounts of gender transitions are written by the transitioner. Instead, here we have an unflinchingly honest account written by her sister, with all her misgivings and ambivalent feelings about the change. Moreover, this is the story of a fairly late transition, not the more usual one in early middle age or youth. The interactions with other family members and friends are also described in some depth, including those who could not handle the change at all. Nor does this account end, as so many do, with the completed transition, but rather goes into the seven years which have followed. Moving, and revealing, without the politically correct "pink fog" which turns many such accounts into fantasies or propaganda.
