About the Author
Internationally acclaimed novelist Leon Uris ran away from home at age seventeen, a month after the attack on Pearl Harbor, to join the Marine Corps, and he served at Guadalcanal and Tarawa. His first novel, Battle Cry, was based on his own experiences in the Marines, which he revisited in his final novel, O'Hara's Choice. His other novels include the bestsellers Redemption, Trinity, Exodus, QB VII, and Topaz, among others. Leon Uris passed away in June 2003.

a "Must Read!!" for anyone!

This is one of so many Holocaust memoirs I have read, but this one is different. Mr. Michel tells of his life as a young Jew living in Mannheim, Germany prior to Hitler's rise. He shares his terrifying journey through Kristallnacht,
labor camps, Auschwitz and Berga, death marches, and liberation. He tells of a young 22 year old Jewfish survivor who becomes a reporter at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. This alone makes for an awe inspiring memoir, but this is not the end of it! Mr. Michel goes on and tells of how he not only survived, he became a positive force. Rather than letting hate live on, he has shared stories of his life along with the message of love. What could be a depressing book proves that out of the ashes comes life!

Ernest your book touched my heart.thank you for your sharing of your survival and the promises you did keep.May you and all you hold dear know you made a difference in this life.May God above bless you especially for all the compassion and love you had . For Walter in his time of dying.read this book everyone much to be learned.remember I will before we too go to glory of God.

You kept your promise

This is an incredible story of survival and man's will to survive and never give up. Such heinous crimes against any people ,race or of religious orientation must never happen again. This book should be read by everyone who wants to understand man's inhumanity to man . NEVER AGAIN
